Boolean Builder

LinkedIn Boolean Search Generator

Type a job title and skills, and get a boolean search string for LinkedIn search, LinkedIn Recruiter, Google X-ray or GitHub X-ray. This boolean string generator follows the operator rules and the length limit of the search you pick. For Google, it counts the 32-word limit. It is free and needs no account.

The extension is not in the Chrome Web Store yet.

Boolean string generator

Separate terms with commas. The string changes while you type.

Job titles The title and its synonyms, for example Data Engineer, ETL Developer. You get profiles with at least one of them.

Must-have skills You get only profiles with every one of these skills.

Nice-to-have skills You get profiles with at least one of these skills. If the string is over the limit, the generator removes these first.

Exclude You do not see profiles with these words, for example intern.

Locations Cities or states. A city with its state, such as Denver, CO, stays one location. LinkedIn sets location with its own filter, so only the Google X-ray and GitHub X-ray strings use them.

How to use the string

Type the job title and two or three skills that every candidate needs. A short string finds more people than a long one.
Pick the search where you paste the string. Each search has its own operators and length limit.
Copy the string and paste it into the search box. Check the first results, then add or remove terms.

Where the string works

LinkedIn search. The search box of LinkedIn, People results. Operators AND, OR, NOT in upper case. LinkedIn limits the number of operators but does not publish the number.
LinkedIn Recruiter. The Keywords field of LinkedIn Recruiter and Recruiter Lite. No limit on the number of operators. Location goes in the Location filter.
Google X-ray. Google search, limited to public LinkedIn profiles with site:linkedin.com/in. Google reads only the first 32 words of a search.
GitHub X-ray. Google search, limited to GitHub profiles of people. Good for developers who share code. The same 32-word limit applies.

Build strings on LinkedIn and Google

The Boolean Builder extension builds the string from a form or from a job description. One click puts the string into the search box of the open LinkedIn or Google page. You start the search yourself: the extension does not search, read results or click on LinkedIn for you.

The extension is not in the Chrome Web Store yet.

Boolean strings by role

Each page has ready strings for one role, with common title synonyms and core skills.
